It’s heartening that “East Point Group of Institutions” has come of age and I am immensely happy to share that our East Point College of Engineering and Technology (EPCET) will be celebrating its “Silver Jubilee” during the year 2024. Our medical college has admitted its 5th batch of students and it is all set for launching PG courses in medicine. We started our “M G Charitable Trust” in the year 1997, with the motive of establishing educational institutions to serve the public by providing education. We established “East Point School” in the year 1997 and our EPCET in the year 1999. Since 1999, we have established 13 institutions including a medical college and a 1000 bedded East Point Hospital. Barring 3 institutions, all other institutions are located on a sprawling “Jnanaprabha Campus” at Bidarahalli, off Old Madras Road and today there are around 10000 students on roll in these institutions.
My beloved husband, late “Dr. S M Venkatpathi” tirelessly worked to realize the vision we had, i.e., “East Point Group of Institutions aim at building a Better World and a Better Mankind by imparting quality education through the learned academic fraternity who have dedicated themselves to the motto of Education + Humanity”.

We are striving to impart holistic quality education in line with NEP-2020 to prepare the students to face 21st-century challenges and contribute to the scientific, technological, healthcare, economic and social sectors of our communities.
There is an explosion in knowledge in every sector and creating new opportunities for the present generation of students and this calls for new education programs, and it is essential that the educational institutions need to respond quickly to meet the educational requirements of students. The present trend is to establish multi-disciplinary universities which can provide quality education and respond to the requirements of students almost instantaneously. The trust is working towards establishing a Private University soon.
It’s our earnest belief, that through this University, we will continue to meet the rising higher education aspirations of our students and parents.
I thank all our faculty members and administrators for their hard work and dedication to the development and growth of “East Point Group of Institutions”. I am sure that the institutions will turn out to be second to none in excellence in all disciplines in days to come.

With immense pleasure, I would like to share that “East Point Group of Institutions” has started making a mark in the higher education sector in our country. At present more than 10000 students studying on our Jnanaprabha Campus. Our medical college has admitted its 5th batch of students and it is all set for launching PG courses in medicine. Our 1000 bedded hospital with many super specialties is attracting a significant number of patients and the hospital is serving the healthcare needs of the poor and the needy free of medical expenses.
Our Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Pharmacy students and faculty members are using our hospital not only as their training ground but also involved in serving the healthcare needs of the poor and needy. During Covid-19, the doctors, students, and the members of the faculty from medical, nursing, physiotherapy, and pharmacy provided the best healthcare to the patients. It’s really amazing to describe the concern that these members of staff and students have towards our society.
I am happy that we are following in the footsteps of our beloved father Dr. S.M. Venkatpathi and we hope to realize the contribution he wanted to make to the healthcare sector of our society through healthcare education and medical care.

During the last 2 decades, we have experienced revolutionary changes in the ICT and this has changed the way we interact with each other and the whole globe has become a village in the real sense. Industry 4.0 has replaced traditional sustainable technologies with disruptive technologies. AI, Data Sciences, Virtual and Augmented reality, and Cloud computing are facilitating the navigation and control of autonomous vehicles. Digital technologies are threatening to disrupt traditional teaching and learning. There are many online universities offering degrees, learning anywhere and anytime is the buzzword today. The knowledge eruption is happening in almost all sectors, the job profiles are changing from traditional to new ones which were unheard earlier. The new generation of students look for picking up knowledge and skills in whatever sector that interests them and also they would like to learn the required skills in the shortest possible time and take up the opportunity. The students would like to learn from the best and accumulate credits from various universities for the award of the degree. There is a great challenge for the traditional university system to meet these dynamic changes and thus there is a need for new models in education and new programs in education.

Education is essential for human development and is central to the progress of a nation. There are seven dimensions to human development- emotional, intellectual, social, physical, economic, environmental, and spiritual. Today’s higher education institutions are focused on the holistic development of students and the present-day university curriculum focuses on all the seven dimensions of human development. The ultimate aim of such an education is to create global citizens with problem-solving abilities. East Point Group of Institutions striving to effectively train all their students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.

The development of intellectual dimension involves development of cognitive skills, affective domain skills, and psychomotor skills. The cognitive skills include remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. Psychomotor is all about hands-on skills, affective domain is about life skills. Developing all these intellectual skills is to prepare a student for problem-solving. The intellectual skills are imparted through teaching, learning, research, and innovation processes, and practical work in the University System. In this, knowledge era, it is essential that the students have to comprehend the wide range of knowledge in the shortest duration to prepare themselves to work in industry and businesses whose talent requirements are changing rapidly.

Undergoing formal education is essential for the development of intellectual dimension. Education is the key for scientific, technological, economic, and societal development of a nation. Thus, education creates human resources for all other sectors of society and education is essential for ever evolving civilisation. If the education quality of a nation degenerates that degenerates the Nation itself. Society considers providing education is a noble cause and teaching is a noble profession.

With the understanding of these facts, Dr. S M Venkatpathi established the East Point Group like many other philanthropists in the Country. The East Point Group of Institutions has started focussing on path-breaking yet contemporary and relevant programs, curricula, and teaching and learning processes. Each program features a multiple-entry and multiple-exit, multi-disciplinary, choice-based education philosophy. Modern pedagogical methods are being implemented for teaching, and students are being provided with digital and physical learning tools. Every program comes with the options of regular, professional, International Immersion, and Global for students to choose from depending on their requirements and choice. The curricula ensure that the students have sufficient time to undergo training and workshops in the domains of emotional intelligence and stability; participate in sports and cultural activities; career counselling, and attend workshops in spiritual and social development activities.

In summary, EPGI strives to create global citizens through its higher education offerings.

The East Point University is being established to focus on implementing new paradigms in higher Education and to create best example in teaching and learning as an enjoyable experience.

Dr. S. R. Shankapal, presently Executive Director, East Point Group of Institutions, was the first Vice Chancellor of M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) established in the year 2013 till May 2018 and President of M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies for 14 years and ran more than 20 postgraduate programmes in collaboration with Coventry University, UK. He also worked as Pro-Vice Chancellor at PES University, Dayananda Sagar University, and Technical Advisor at REVA University for small stints.

Dr. S. R. Shankapal, is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from University of Mysore studied at MCE-Hassan during 1977-1982, with a postgraduate degree from IIT Madras (1984) and PhD degree from BITS Pilani (1998).
